I tried to use the built-in flash.
How to use.
I tried a forbidden method that would not be covered by the EOS-R50’s warranty.
The current problems are the following two points.
- The EOS-R50’s built-in flash does not go into flash use mode until it is almost fully raised.
- When the EOS-R50 is placed in the Seaforgs R50 housing, the built-in flash does not go fully raised.
I made some modifications to the R50’s built-in flash so that it would work even when placed in a Seaforgs housing.
My plan is to find a way to have the flash-related switches on the R50 recognize it as being in the flash-full-up state.
However, prior to that I was able to get the built-in flash to work.
To do this, remove the flash cover.
That’s it.
How to remove the cover.
The photo above shows the flash popped up.
If you look at the camera directly in front of the camera, you can see that there is a screw next to the flash.
Remove this screw and pry the cover up, and the flash cover will come off.
This photo shows it after removal.
The terminals are exposed, so care must be taken when handling it.
The flash runs on high voltage, so touching both ends of the terminals can feel a bit strong.
The screws are quite tough. You need to turn them carefully so as not to strip the threads.
I used a 0 Phillips precision screwdriver.
Set it in the housing.
The cover was removed and the camera was placed in the housing.
I was able to insert the camera with the flash fully up.
When I connected an external flash and took a picture, the external flash was driven normally.
